The Incredible Shrinking Man is a speculative research project by artist and exhibition maker Arne Hendriks. Together with a group of researchers consisting of a product designer, an art historian, a motion designer and a chef among others, Hendriks is exploring the idea of becoming smaller. What happens when we use all of our knowledge and technology to downsize the human species? We will need less food, less space, less of everything really. Hendriks has calculated that if we shrink to around 50 centimeters, we will need 2% of the calories we need today. This means one normal sized meal will then feed up to 50 people.
The Incredible Shrinking Man Project deals with the very real environmental problems we are facing today by exploring a possible solution in an entertaining but most of all intelligent way.
